Especially during the holiday season when weekdays calendars are starting to max out, it’s good to know that Helen Bumpus Gallery – and Duxbury Free Library where HBG lives – will be open Sunday afternoons from 1-5 pm
Now any day of the week through the end of the year (except Thanksgiving and Christmas), visitors who come to the gallery can enjoy “A New Day,” the November-December exhibition featuring Denise Byrnes Graham’s paintings and their celebration of the natural world.

Complimentary tickets are still available for a special pre- sentation in Duxbury Free Library's Mery Room on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. when award-winning photographer Steven Edson - whose exhibition "The Art of the Automobile" is featured at Helen Bumpus Gallery through the end of October - will share insights into his photographic pursuit of antique cars and a brief history of the automobile as it relates to his images and artistic process.
During the Q&A session following Edson's slideshow and talk, attendees are invited to ask technical questions about his camera settings, special considerations while shooting old cars, and tips on where to find appropriate antique automobile specimens.

Automobiles as art at the Bumpus

Nostalgia rolls into Helen Bumpus Gallery next month when “The Art of the Automobile” arrives for a two-month visit.
“Cars are a catalyst for people’s earliest memories,” says award-winning photographer Steven Edson, whose September-October exhibition oHers visitors a modern look at a wide-ranging collection of automobiles.
The show includes photos of a 1935 Studebaker Commander, 1950 Pontiac Chieftain and 1957 Chevrolet Delray, along with dozens of makes and styles from the year in between and beyond.
By highlighting intricate details of metal and chrome in diHerent light and atmospheric conditions, Edson used his camera to celebrate the abstract beauty of car design, both old and new.

‘Two-fer” at Bumpus Gallery

Through the end of August, visitors to Helen Bumpus Gallery have an opportunity to enjoy a “two-fer” exhibition: “Real and Imagined: paintings by Tony Andrade.
In addition to the artist’s whimsically abstract scenes of his imagined garden, the show includes paintings of traditional, soothing landscapes.

Duxbury Clipper - Around Town
Sianna Richards, DHS Class of 2024, has been selected by the Board of Directors to receive this year’s Helen Bumpus Gallery annual art scholarship. Each year the Gallery awards a $500 grant to a graduating Duxbury senior to encourage continued study in the visual arts. While enrollment in a college degree program is not necessary, the study must be part of a recognized/certified course. Applicants are not required to attend the local high school, but they must be residents of Duxbury.

Fun art at Bumpus Gallery

This summer, visitors to Duxbury Free Library are in for a visual treat as soon as they step inside Helen Bumpus Gallery, located opposite the circulation desk on DFL's main floor. "Real and Imagined" paintings by Tony Andrade, the Gallery's July - August exhibit, features tow distinct bodies of work: realistic landscapes and abstract, imagined gardens. The colorful show includes several of the new approaches to painting Andrade has been exploring over the past few years. Helen Bumpus Gallery offers visitors to Andrade's Duxbury show the opportunity to enjoy that same fun and excitement. "Real and Imagined" runs through Aug. 30.
