Helen Bumpus Gallery is hosting a free reception to celebrate local award-winning artist Laura Harvey and her lighthearted summer exhibition, HEAT WAVE on Friday, July 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. All are invited to meet the artist amid her lively mixed media artwork and to enjoy light refreshments and beverages. The Gallery is located on the main floor of Duxbury Free Library.
As a mixed media artist, Harvey creates intricately layered collages on a variety of surfaces – from canvas and traditional birch panels to hollow-core doors.
"To intuitively create each piece, I draw from an ever-evolving collection of media and vintage ephemera, building layers using paint, papers (found, purchased and hand painted), acrylic mediums, graphite, photo transfers and more,” she says of her work. “I derive a storyteller’s satisfaction watching each piece evolve during the creative process – from the initial blur of an idea to a completed visual.”
In addition to her intricately layered original collages, Harvey will be offering one-of-a-kind art prints of her often whimsical creations during her Bumpus exhibition, which runs through the end of August.
