Frances C. Andahazy
“My painting is a direct result of influences from many years of theatrical painting in which bold colors, strong compositions, and alternative points of view are a focus. I approach painting very methodically with many drawings beforehand, often creating a selection of compositions until I find one that captures me. I consider palatte colors, under paint, canvas sizes and think through a plan. I believe this is important to a good painting. My painting then emerges based on my emotional response to my subject, within a specialized environment. This may result in many levels of finish in my work depending on the mood of the environment. The real fun comes in the “act of painting,” often changing my plan and the end result often surprises me.”
Frances C. Andahazy is an honors graduate from Massachusetts College of Art, with a BFA in art education. A teacher of art and design for over 25 years, she led the development of her own award-winning special events design company, PBD Events (formerly Party by Design), in which she is CEO and Creative Director.
Both of Franny’s growing businesses have seasoned her as an artist, with professionals calling on her expertise for her design skills, expertise on juror panels, and knowledge as an art consultant. She is an active advisor, and past Director at the South Shore Art Center in Cohasset, member of the NRAS in Marshfield, Duxbury Art Association, ICA in Boston, and SVAA in Manchester, Vermont.
In addition to Oceanside 17 Studio, she also has work in the Duxbury gallery and some galleries in New Jersey and private collections. Growing up in a beach town in New Jersey, Franny draws inspiration from her coastal surroundings. She often depicts images both interior and exterior of seaside cottage. Occasionally a human figure or coastal landscape may appear in her compositions, as she loves to capture a moment in time. Her vibrant colors and strong light sense are a direct result of her work in event design.
