Anthony Pilla

Anthony Pilla, former K-12 Director of Art for the Bedford Public Schools, recently retired after a 39-year career as a public school teacher in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. During that time he was honored with Teacher of the Year awards from Clark University and the Bedford Public Schools as well as letters of commendation from Williams College and the University of Chicago. Currently he is Education Coordinator at South Shore Art Center in Cohasset where he also lectures on art history.

Mr. Pilla is an exhibiting artist and printmaker whose medium is woodcut. Over the years his award-winning work has been selected for group exhibitions at the Art Complex Museum in the Duxbury Art Association Winter Juried Show, School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Evos Gallery in Lowell, North River Arts Society in Marshfield, Concord Art Association, Artica Gallery in Duxbury, Plymouth Art Festival and South Shore Art Center in Cohasset. In addition to receiving First Place in several art competitions in the area, his awards include the George Lockwood Prize for Excellence in Printmaking from the Pembroke Art Festival and the 1990/1991 Esther Conant Prize for Best Show at the Helen Bumpus Gallery.

Mr. Pilla is a past member of the Helen Bumpus Gallery Advisory Committee and the Duxbury Cultural Council.
