Artist Biography

Stephen Boczanowski grew up in Boston and summered in the Scituate-Marshfield area of Massachusetts. His childhood vacationing influenced his paintings of fishing trawlers, quaint harbors, boatyards and seaside cottages.

Like Edward Hopper he says, he searches out local architecture for unusual memorable settings, fantastic roofs, eye-searing colors and exaggerated textures. Some of the places he has recalled from his youth, while others he has experienced more recently. He tries to experiment with various techniques and mediums and explore places that are new as well as remembered.

Boczanowski graduated from Tufts University, Boston Museum School of Fine Arts & received a MS in Art Education from Massachusetts College of Art. He has had many shows and exhibits in the New England Area.

Boczanowski has taught art in the Marshfield School system and at Providence College where he continues to teach photography. He has memberships with the Cape Cod Art Association, South Shore Art Association & Duxbury Art Association, among others.
