Sandra Weeks - Colored Pencil Magic
Artist Sandra Weeks will be presenting her show "Colored Pencil Magic" at the gallery in November and December.
My medium is colored pencils. Many say my drawings look like photographs, but that’s the incredible beauty which colored pencils gives me! One can obtain exact and finite details with them. I use Prismacolor brand pencils as they are waxed based and can be blended and layered to create many more colors then the 150 colors Prismacolor offer.
Currently, I have a small cottage business of drawing commissioned pet portraits. Using colored pencils lends itself perfectly to detail every strand of animal fur and the ability to capture the essence of life in their eyes. If I’m not working on creating drawings of animals, then my second passion is working on colorful floral drawings.
My background. I grew up in the old historical seaport town of Fairhaven, MA. My dad was a finished cabinetmaker. From him, I inherited the love of building things and so I graduated from MassArt with a BFA degree in Industrial Design. For my entire career, I did corporate interior space planning. I loved designing office spaces, doing old fashioned, construction drawings by hand, and overseeing the build out of my designs. Currently I live in Cohasset with husband Bill, who is my biggest advocate.
My artwork may also be seen at Gallery Nantasket, 121 Nantasket Ave, Hull, MA
